AI Photo Finder & Biometric Privacy Notice

Last updated June 18, 2026

This notice explains how the AI Photo Finder feature works on The Capture Rig and how we handle the information involved when you use it. We've kept it plain and practical. AI Photo Finder is an optional tool - you never have to use it, and you can always browse a gallery manually instead.

What AI Photo Finder does

When a photographer turns on AI Photo Finder for a gallery, visitors can take or upload a selfie to quickly find the photos in that gallery that may include them. It's a convenience feature that saves you from scrolling through every image to find yourself.

How AI face matching is used

AI Photo Finder uses AI face matching. When you submit a selfie, the system detects the face in your selfie and compares it against faces that were detected in the photos of that one gallery, then returns the photos that appear to be a match. Matching is based only on comparing faces - we do not try to infer or display your age, gender, race, emotion, health, identity, or any other personal characteristic.

Using a selfie is voluntary

Searching with a selfie is completely voluntary. You are asked to give clear consent before any search runs, and you can decline and simply view the full gallery instead. If you don't consent, no selfie search happens.

Your selfie is used only for the search

The selfie you provide is used only to run that one search. It is not permanently stored - we do not save it to a database, a storage bucket, or our logs, and it is discarded after the comparison is made. Your selfie is never used for any other purpose.

Searches stay within one gallery

Each search is limited to the single gallery you're viewing. Your selfie is never used to search across other galleries, other photographers' galleries, or any wider collection of images. There is no cross-gallery search.

Face index data is removed when no longer needed

To make matching possible, the faces detected in a gallery's photos are stored as face-match data scoped to that gallery. This data is removed automatically when:

  • the photographer turns off AI Photo Finder for that gallery, or
  • the gallery is deleted.

In both cases the gallery's face collection and its stored face-index records are deleted.

We do not sell biometric data

The Capture Rig does not sell biometric data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Face-match data exists only to power AI Photo Finder for the gallery it belongs to.

What we do not use this feature for

AI Photo Finder is not used for any of the following:

  • Identity verification or confirming who someone legally is.
  • Surveillance or monitoring of people.
  • Advertising, marketing, or profiling.
  • Training AI or machine-learning models.
  • Searching across other galleries or building any wider face database.

Results may not be perfect

AI face matching is a convenience tool, not a guarantee. It may miss photos that include you or occasionally suggest photos that don't. Lighting, angles, masks, sunglasses, and image quality can all affect the results. If the matches aren't quite right, you can always browse the full gallery manually to find every photo on your own.

Requesting deletion or asking questions

If you'd like face-match data related to you removed, or you have any questions about privacy and this feature, contact us at support@thecapturerig.com. You can also ask the photographer or event organizer who runs the gallery, since they control whether the feature is on and can turn it off at any time.

A note on consent

This notice describes how the feature works on our platform. It is not a substitute for any consent or permissions that a photographer, event organizer, school, or venue may be required to obtain before enabling AI face matching - for example, consent for minors, students, youth sports, private events, or restricted-access galleries. Those parties are responsible for securing the appropriate consent for their galleries.
