AI Photo Finder & Biometric Privacy Notice

AI Photo Finder is an optional feature that helps gallery visitors find photographs that may include them by using face matching.

You do not have to use AI Photo Finder. You can always browse the gallery normally instead.

When you choose to use AI Photo Finder, we explain how face matching works and ask for your consent before the search begins.

What AI Photo Finder does

When a photographer enables AI Photo Finder for a supported gallery, a visitor can take or upload a photo to search that gallery for photographs that may include the person shown.

AI Photo Finder compares the face in the submitted search photo with faces indexed within that gallery and returns likely matches. Results are suggestions, not guarantees. Lighting, angles, sunglasses, masks, image quality and similar conditions can all affect matches.

Consent before a search

Before AI Photo Finder runs a search, the person initiating the search must affirmatively agree to the AI Photo Finder consent notice. The consent explains that face matching will be used to search the current gallery.

The Capture Rig records the consent event, including the version of the consent shown and the time it was accepted. We do not collect your IP address for this consent process, and the submitted search photo is not part of the consent record.

Searching for a child or dependent

AI Photo Finder may be used by an adult to search for photographs of a child or dependent when the adult is authorized to provide permission for that search.

Before continuing, the person initiating the search must confirm that they are:

  • 18 or older, and
  • the parent, legal guardian, or otherwise authorized to provide permission for the person whose photograph is being used for the search.

The child is not asked to accept the AI Photo Finder consent notice independently. The adult who confirms their authorization provides the consent.

This consent flow describes how AI Photo Finder operates within The Capture Rig. Photographers, event organizers, schools, venues, teams, or other organizations may have additional consent or privacy obligations depending on the type of event and applicable law. The Capture Rig policy engine separately determines whether AI Photo Finder can be enabled for a gallery.

Some locations have additional restrictions

The Capture Rig applies jurisdiction-aware controls before AI Photo Finder can be enabled. If the biometric policy engine determines that AI Photo Finder is not currently supported for the location where the photography occurred, the feature remains unavailable for that gallery. Visitors can still browse and search that gallery normally.

AI Photo Finder is not currently offered for galleries photographed in Illinois, Texas or Washington under our standard face-matching workflow.

AI Photo Finder is currently offered only for galleries photographed in the United States. Galleries photographed outside the United States are not eligible under the current policy. Face-match processing runs in United States infrastructure regions.

Face matching stays inside one gallery

When AI Photo Finder is enabled, eligible photographs in that gallery may be processed to create gallery-scoped face-match data. Each gallery uses its own face-match collection.

A search in one gallery cannot be used to search:

  • another gallery
  • another photographer's gallery
  • another studio
  • a broader Capture Rig face database

There is no universal Capture Rig face database.

The photo you submit is used for the search

The photo you submit to AI Photo Finder is used to perform that search. The Capture Rig application does not intentionally persist the submitted search image. It is not intentionally saved to:

  • your gallery
  • the Capture Rig photo library
  • normal file storage
  • a persistent selfie profile

It is not used for:

  • advertising
  • profiling
  • surveillance
  • identity verification
  • AI model training

Face-matching provider

The Capture Rig currently uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) Rekognition for gallery-scoped face matching. Face-match information may be processed by that service provider only as necessary to provide AI Photo Finder.

How long face-match data is kept

Face-match data is not intended to exist indefinitely. The Capture Rig currently applies a 365-day inactivity retention period to AI Photo Finder face-match collections. Inactivity is measured from the gallery's last AI Photo Finder use — the most recent indexing or search activity for that gallery — and that activity resets the clock.

Face-match data may be deleted earlier when:

  • AI Photo Finder is disabled for the gallery
  • the gallery is deleted
  • another applicable product or privacy rule requires deletion

Deleting face-match data

When AI Photo Finder is disabled, the gallery is deleted, or the applicable retention period expires, The Capture Rig begins deletion of the gallery's face-match collection.

Deletion is tracked through completion. If the provider cannot complete the deletion immediately, The Capture Rig can retry the deletion and surface unresolved cleanup failures for review.

Non-biometric operational records, such as consent timestamps or audit records, may be retained where needed for security, billing, audit, dispute resolution, or legal recordkeeping. These operational records are separate from biometric face-match data and do not contain it.

Results may not be perfect

AI face matching is a convenience tool, not a guarantee. It may miss photographs that include the person being searched for or occasionally return photographs that are not a match. Visitors can always browse the full gallery normally.

What we do not use AI Photo Finder for

AI Photo Finder is not used for:

  • legal identity verification
  • surveillance
  • monitoring people across galleries
  • advertising
  • behavioral profiling
  • demographic inference
  • emotion inference
  • training AI or machine-learning models
  • building a global face database

You can also ask the photographer or event organizer who runs the gallery — they control whether AI Photo Finder is enabled for their gallery and can turn it off at any time.
