AI Photo Finder safeguards
Last updated August 20, 2026
This page describes the product controls that govern AI Photo Finder. It is a plain-language description of how the feature behaves — it is not legal advice, a certification, or a claim of guaranteed compliance with any specific law.
Where the feature runs
- Available only for galleries photographed in the United States.
- Not available for galleries photographed in Illinois, Texas, or Washington. This is enforced on our servers, not just hidden in the interface.
- Face-match processing runs in United States infrastructure regions only.
Photographer controls before enabling
- The photographer confirms the state where the gallery was photographed.
- Photographers note whether a gallery includes minors or youth participants so they are reminded to secure permission from a parent, guardian, school, or organizer. Availability itself is decided by the jurisdiction policy engine.
- The photographer accepts a versioned acknowledgment; we record which version was accepted, a fingerprint of its wording, and the location confirmed at that moment.
- If the confirmed location later changes to a restricted state, the feature switches off and existing face-match data is queued for deletion.
Visitor consent
- Using a search photo is voluntary; visitors can browse the gallery instead.
- An adult searching for a child or dependent confirms they are 18 or older and authorized to give permission for that search. The child is not asked to consent independently.
- A search cannot run without a short-lived, signed consent record tied to that gallery and the current version of the disclosure.
- We store the consent version, a fingerprint of the disclosure text, and the timestamp. We do not store the submitted search photo or the visitor's IP address.
Retention
- Face-match data is scoped to a single gallery and never shared across galleries.
- Face-match data is released automatically after 365 days without use, and immediately when the photographer turns the feature off or deletes the gallery.
Verified deletion
- Every deletion request is recorded as a tracked job.
- A job is only closed once our face-matching provider confirms the gallery's face collection no longer exists.
- Failed attempts are retried on a backoff schedule and surfaced internally for review.
What the feature is never used for
- Identity verification, surveillance, or monitoring.
- Advertising, marketing, or profiling.
- Training AI or machine-learning models.
- Cross-gallery search or building a wider face database.
- Inferring age, gender, race, emotion, health, or any other characteristic.
